Module 14 - Passage Planning
Monitor
Continuously monitor your progress against the plan. Are you on track? Is the weather as forecast? Are the tides behaving as predicted? If conditions change — stronger wind, fog, equipment failure — be prepared to modify the plan.
The most important question is always: 'What do I do if things go wrong?' Having thought about this in advance (during the planning stage) means you can act quickly and decisively when it matters.
Key points
- Compare actual progress to the plan
- Monitor weather against the forecast
- Be prepared to divert to a bolt hole if necessary
- Always have a 'Plan B' thought through in advance
