Rules 9 & 10 — Narrow Channels and TSS
Rule 9 (Narrow Channels): Keep to the starboard side. Vessels under 20m or sailing vessels must not impede vessels that can only navigate within the channel. Do not cross a narrow channel if doing so would impede another vessel.
Rule 10 (Traffic Separation Schemes): Cross at right angles to the traffic flow. Vessels under 20m and sailing vessels must not impede power-driven vessels following the lane. Join or leave at the ends, or at as shallow an angle as possible.
- Narrow channels: keep to starboard side
- Small vessels must not impede vessels confined to the channel
- TSS: cross at right angles to traffic flow
- Do not use inshore traffic zones if you can use the main lane
